Stewart A. Hinckley, CMP

Principal

Stewart graduated from Washington & Lee University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Stewart worked in the hotel industry from 1982-1992 including the front office of the Hyatt Regency Crystal City and as a Catering Manager for the Radisson Mark Plaza Hotel. He joined Ruggles in 1992 as Director of Meetings and Conventions and now serves as President. Stewart is a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) and is a member of the International Association of Association Management Companies (IAAMC) and Virginia Society of Association Executives.

Heather Spiess

Principal

Heather is Vice President and Secretary of Ruggles Service Corporation and has been employed with Ruggles since 1991. She worked for eight years in the hospitality industry with Marriott Hotels and Resorts and Hyatt Hotels. She also served as the Executive Administrator for the International Association for the Study of Pain.

Kevin F. Johns, CMP, CAE, CHSE

Director of Meetings and Conventions

Kevin has been in the hospitality field for over 35 years. Eleven years were spent in the hotel industry as a Front Desk Manager, Banquet Manager, Convention Manager and National Sales Manager. He also owned and operated his own restaurant. Kevin joined Ruggles Service Corporation as a meeting planner from 1981 to 1989 and returned to Ruggles in 1997 as the Director of Meetings and Conventions. He holds a BA from the College of William and Mary and has earned continuing education certificates in meeting management. He currently holds titles of Certified Meeting Planner (CMP), Certified Association Executive (CAE) and Certified Hotel Sales Executive (CHSE).

Matt Carpenter

Manager of Meetings and Conventions

Matt recently joined Ruggles after a twenty eight year career with Visual Aids Electronics. Over his career at VAE, Matt's responsibilities included managing in-house audiovisual operations and sales at several hotel properties. He worked for over ten years as a Production and Project Manager in VAE's Convention/Show Services department working with their largest association and corporate accounts including many of Ruggles' Societies and most recently was Regional Sales Manager in the Richmond region. Matt brings a wealth of experience in meeting and event support from the supplier side of the industry.

Daniel Gainyard

Director of Information Technology / Website Developer

Daniel has been employed by Ruggles since 1986. He has developed custom membership databases, programmed multimedia CDs as well as done extensive website development and programming. Daniel serves as the database administrator (DBA) and network administrator. He has had outside training in many areas of information technology and has extensive working knowledge in all aspects of computer operations.

David Vereen

Chief Financial Officer

David has been with Ruggles Service Corporation since 1998. He has been in association management since 1973. His previous experience was Director of Education and Director of Administration for the Virginia Association of Realtors, and CEO for the Nebraska Realtors Association. He worked several years as Controller for a firm managing self-insured worker's compensation programs, and as Controller for the Greater Richmond Convention and Visitor's Bureau. He attended Ohio State University, and is a member of the American Society of Association Executives.

Kimberly Robertson, CPA

Controller

Kimberly is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a BS in Accounting. Before joining Ruggles in 2003, Kimberly was a manager with a local public accounting firm. Her twelve years of experience there included both tax and audit work with a strong emphasis in the not-for-profit sector. Kimberly is responsible for all financial record keeping, processing and reporting. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Joye Stewart

Association Manager

Joye is a graduate of Commonwealth College and has been with the Ruggles team as both Membership Manager and Association Manager. She spent 10 years with Hyatt Hotels in sales, management and event planning and earned a top spot among the Hyatt Masters Sales Force. Joye was Sales Manager for the Metro Richmond Convention and Visitors Bureau bringing conventions to the Richmond area and also as Meeting Planner for Fort James Corporation before joining Ruggles in 1998. Her experience in sales, marketing and event planning provides insight on successful strategies for association growth as well as the organizational and customer service skills necessary for managing day to day society operations.

Kim Battle

Membership Manager

Kim recently joined Ruggles Service Corporation after more than ten years at VISIT Milwaukee (Convention & Visitors Bureau), five as Director of Membership. In her previous role she was responsible for member recruitment, retention and relationship building, as well as event planning, fundraising and database management. She also has experience in developing websites and producing publications. Kim graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1997 with a B.A. in Mass Communication.

Matt Van Wie

Manager, Corporate and Educational Support

Matt has managed exhibit programs and trade-show logistics for corporate and non-profit clients. Most recently as Vice President of Sales for Exhibitgroup|Giltspur, Inc., he coordinated all aspects of exhibitor participation in over 100 trade shows per year. Matt has been with Ruggles since 2003, and has been extremely successful in developing relationships and generating the maximum grant, sponsorship and exhibitor revenue possible for each of our societies. He manages the commercial support databases, contracts, correspondence, solicitation, collection, exhibitor information websites, floorplans, sponsor recognition and follow-up communication.

Betsy Crowell

Association Manager

Betsy graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman's College in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Sociology. She was selected by the International Studies Committee to study abroad at the University of Reading in Reading, England for her junior year.

With 20 years in the industry, Betsy has brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role as Association Manager with Ruggles. Past experiences have included work in sales and marketing with the hospitality and travel industry, as well as in meeting and festival planning. Betsy is detail oriented and enjoys working closely with her clients in making their associations a success.

Beverly Bernard

Graphic Designer

Beverly is responsible for producing meeting logos, newsletters, posters and meeting signage, exhibitor prospecti, meeting syllabi, advertisements, web design, and many other custom projects. Her extensive experience spans 30 years and is comprised of work for many local, regional and national corporations including Reynolds Metals, National Tobacco, Zig Zag and New York Apple Association.

Ray Hall

Graphic Designer

An award-winning writer, photographer and designer, Ray joined the team in July 2006. He designs and produces meeting materials, advertisements, newsletters, syllabi and web content. Prior to joining Ruggles, Ray spent almost 20 years in the newspaper industry. He had a leading role in the adoption and implementation of rapidly evolving digital publishing technologies at four organizations, and is adept at using it to create engaging and effective presentations for print and the web. His work has appeared in a variety of Virginia newspapers and their supplementary publications; local, state and national trade publications; local and regional magazines; and web sites. He has also done substantial contract work for retail businesses, restaurants, colleges and universities and government agencies.

IT and Database Specialist

Matt has been with the company since 2000. Matt is responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operation and upkeep of client websites, website application development, and the maintenance of the company's webserver and email systems.

Bob Specht

Association Manager

Bob has been employed at Ruggles Service Corporation since 1992 as an Administrator for some of the societies managed by this corporation. Bob provides exceptional attention to detail and service to his societies' members. Prior to this, he retired from the U.S. Army as a First Sergeant after having served twenty-one (21) years of honorable military service. Extensive management training and experience throughout his military career complement his position as an Administrator.

Dana Gibson

Association Manager

Dana graduated from the College of Charleston in 1993 with a B.S. in Sociology and Baylor University in 1995 with a M.S. in Gerontology. She has recently joined Ruggles Services Corporation and brings a wealth of experience from her role as Board Administrator of the State Board of Long Term Health Care Administrators in South Carolina. She recently worked in the Office of Delegate Harvey B. Morgan in the Virginia House of Delegates. Dana has been involved in drafting state and national policies, organizing educational seminars, managing a state board and was part of the national review for the licensing examination of residential care/assisted living administrators. Dana has a passion for details and thrives on seeing the project from start to finish. She is a great public speaker and has had the opportunity to give presentations to various professional groups within the healthcare community.

Andrew Mann

Association Manager

Andrew came on board in 2006 after serving many of Ruggles clients over the years as project manager with Visual Aids Electronics. While employed with VAE, Andrew earned the distinction of Certified Technical Specialist (CST) and honed his client service skills. Andrew is a member of the Virginia Society of Association Executives, and in 2005 received their outstanding member of the year award. An avid cyclist and outdoor enthusiast, Andrew is currently serving as president of the Richmond Area Bicycling Association.

Donna Pendarvis

Association Manager

A seasoned producer, Donna Pendarvis has teamed her large-scale special events talents with presenters of lively arts festivals, conventions, and corporate kick-offs throughout the eastern part of the United States. Five years with the American Cancer Society retrained her focus on volunteer recruitment and retention, and streamlined coordination of a project's multiple components under deadline and budget restraints. Donna translates this particular skill set into more effective business practices for an association, including enhanced accomplishment of the mission objectives and a heightened level of satisfaction among the society's membership.

Liz McNamara

Administrator

Liz has been with Ruggles since 1988. Liz handles many tasks including answering all phones, opening mail, processing mailing list requests, processing dues payments, and fulfillment of requests for meeting information to name just a few.

Julie Hitt

Administrator

Julie is a 2003 graduate of The Braxton School of Business and received her MOUS Certificate in Word and Excel while attending. Before joining Ruggles in November 2006, Julie was a Legal Administrative Assistant for a liability law firm for three years. As part of her new job, Julie handles many tasks including answering phones, opening mail, distribution of mail, update member address changes to computer database, create and print mailing labels, bulk mailing, and helps Association Managers when needed.
